Failure is the best thing that can happen to us. Most of society has gotten it wrong for the past 100 years and it is time that we set this straight. When you were in school, what were you taught? That you needed to get an A and that mistakes were to be punished with bad grades. We are taught from a young age that it is bad to be wrong and it is unacceptable to fail.
But what does it mean to fail? Well, it means that we did not accomplish a goal or task. It means that our initial hypotheses of our actions did not turn out how we predicted it to. And you know what? That is a good thing. Every time we fail we grow. Every time we fail we learn something different and we have an entirely new experience to add to our tool bag.
Failure should be encouraged, not discouraged. Success comes from the ashes of a million failures and defeat comes when we fear taking action because we may fail. The most successful people in history have failed more times than they can count. The most successful people today do not fear failing, they fear that they have not failed enough.
Failure is good. Not failing is bad. Learning, growing, and experiencing are good. Being stuck in the same monotonous rut is not good. When you get that feeling of uncertainty in your life, when you get that feeling that you need to make a change, then it is time to go fail.
My challenge to you is to fail. Do something that you have never done. Try something that you have feared doing before. When we step out of our comfort zone and we fail, we grow. We learn that fear is all in our mind and that failure is the friend that we have been searching for all along. Please go fail, so then you can truly succeed.
